Is it safe to have sex when I’m pregnant?
It is safe to have sex during pregnancy. Many couples who are having a normal pregnancy continue to enjoy sex till the last stages. There are certain circumstances where you doctor will suggest to abstain from sex for certain or whole part of pregnancy. You should check with your Doctor, if you are not certain. Do not be shy and deprive yourselves.
Does sex during pregnancy harm the baby?
Absolutely not. When you are making love, the baby is protected by the amniotic sac, strong muscles of the Uterus and the thick mucous which acts as a seal around the cervix. The mucous seal also acts as a preventive layer against any infections. The penis does not go beyond the Vagina, during intercourse.
Can having sex trigger labor?
If you have a normal, low risk pregnancy, then there is nothing to fear at all. Orgasm or sexual stimulation cannot start labor or cause a miscarriage. Orgasms may cause mild uterine contractions. These can also be caused by nipple stimulation and the prostaglandins in semen. However, these contractions are very short lived and harmless.
How does sex feel during pregnancy?
It is difficult to predict this one. Certain women feel heightened desire while others feel it reduced. These might also change during the course of pregnancy. Hence do not be alarmed and have a candid conversation with your partner about your feelings. They will welcome the feedback and act accordingly. The reason for heightened desire is that during pregnancy there is increased blood flow to the pelvic area which can cause engorgement of the genitals. There could be extra vaginal discharge or moistness which aids the pleasurable sensation.
For few others, same engorgement gives an uncomfortable feeling of fullness causing discomfort. Your breasts are undergoing changes and preparing you for nursing of baby. Please look at Sleeping Bra which is a great aid to take care of them.
There is a great possibility that your breasts feel tender and become extremely sensitive. The tenderness generally subsides, but your breasts may remain more sensitive. Certain women will like this heightened sensitivity while others dislike it and do not want their breasts to be even touched. Please let your partner know so that they can re-orient themselves.
